ICS Collects 1,718 Pounds of Food for Gleaners

The Second Annual ICS Canned Food Drive for Thanksgiving, sponsored by the 4th grade, was held from Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, and ran through Friday, Nov. 17. All canned foods collected were donated to Gleaners Food Bank. Items collected included:

  • Beef Stew, tuna, or other canned meats
  • Macaroni and cheese and other boxed dinners
  • Cans of soup
  • Canned vegetables
  • 100% juices
  • Peanut butter
  • Canned Fruits

The collection had an intentional competitive spirit, as arranged by ICS 4th grade teacher Michael McFadden, who conceived the idea for the food drive last year. The competition was between all homerooms, with the homeroom that brought the most cans in earning a breakfast party on the Wednesday, Nov. 21, the day before Thanksgiving break. The breakfast party, which consisted of donuts, juice, and milk, was won by Mrs. Meyer’s 7th grade homeroom.
