Holiday Musical Performances at ICS Play to Large Crowds

On Tuesday, December 11, the Irvington Community School Band, directed by Mrs. Elizabeth Constantine, performed its Winter Concert. The concert began with the 5th and 6th Grade Band members performing the steps they have taken as a complete ensemble, ending their portion of the concert with the group’s first band piece. The 7th and 8th Grade Band played next, performing three pieces: “Ancient Voices,” depicting prehistoric times; “Blue Mountain Legend,” involving folk tunes from Appalachian lumberjacks and featuring solos by Dylan H. on clarinet, Anthony S. on alto saxophone, and Will S. on trumpet; and “Cantique de Noel,” filling the air with holiday spirit. The beginning melody was introduced by the French horn, which was played by Joey E.

The following evening, December 12, musical performers from kindergarten through 4th grade, also led by Mrs. Constantine, played in front of a record crowd in the ICS Gymnasium. The students sang, dance, and played instruments for the standing-room-only audience.

On Tuesday, December 18, the Irvington Community School Choir, directed by Ms. Kelly Thomas, performed in the school gym. The 7th and 8th Grade Choir began the evening with three songs to set the holiday mood. Notably, their final song involved the use of kazoos, delighting both audience members and kazoo players! The 5th and 6th Grade Choir also sang three holiday songs, the first of which included a solo by Kaitlyn E. The evening concluded with a rousing rendition of “Holiday Carol.”
