Pre-Kindergarten

Irvington Community Elementary School (ICES) offers a curriculum-based PreKindergarten Program (Pre-K) to better prepare four-year-olds for a successful transition to kindergarten. Aligned with Irvington Community School’s proven K-12 educational approach, the program is rooted in the community school model and the fundamental belief that it is never too early to create awareness for social responsibility and active citizenship. Based on a play-and-learn model, the ICES Pre-K Program features a small class size (15 students) where students experience literacy and math circles; rotating technology stations; music and art instruction; cognitive development play; educational field trips; and social-emotional learning.

ICES has adopted the Tara West Pre-K Curriculum which aligns with the existing Kindergarten curriculum, ensuring that students are fully prepared for Kindergarten the following year. The curriculum consists of thematically-based literacy and math instruction to prepare students with skills in alphabet recognition, phonological awareness, pre-reading comprehension skills, geometry and sorting, counting, and numeracy.

The ICES Pre-K school day will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Additionally, ICES is partnering with the Ransburg YMCA to offer fee-based, structured Before and After Care programming onsite for interested students.

All students who successfully complete the ICES PreKindergarten Program will automatically receive a priority seat in the next year’s ICES Kindergarten class.
