Curriculum

Irvington Community Schools offers a rigorous academic program with a focus on individual results and achievement.

Assessment tools are used to drive instruction and target individual student needs through differentiated instruction, small group instruction, pull-out services (involving small group work with instructional assistants, instructional coaches, and/or special education instructors), and after-school tutoring and enrichment sessions.

Teachers at Irvington employ a variety of instructional resources ranging from Internet and computer technology, novels, textbooks, videos, and hands-on materials. Textbooks are only one small part of instructional resources used. The following textbook series have been adopted as tools to aid instruction:

Remedial Reading Programs and Support Services. We are committed to ensuring all students receive the support they need to grow as readers. Our multi-tiered system of support includes the following:

Elementary (Grades K–5)

    • All students receive 30 minutes of daily reading intervention built into the school day.

Students requiring additional support receive daily push-in services from trained instructional assistants.

Intervention decisions are based on performance data from Acadience Reading assessments. Along with Orton Gillingham, Voyager Passport and UFLI materials to support reading fluency.

Middle School (Grades 6–8)

    • Students identified through NWEA and Acadience Reading assessments as needing additional reading support participate in pull-out intervention sessions three times per week. Along with Read 180 and Orton Gillingham materials to support reading fluency.

High School (Grades 9–12)

Students that need additional reading support will use Read 180 from HMH

Instruction is focused on foundational skill gaps and comprehension strategies at all grade levels.
